Governor Ralph Northam presented the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) with the 2019 Governor’s Honor Award for Ensuring Access to Skilled Workers through Workforce Development Programs. DHCD received the award for the Great Opportunities in Technology and Engineering (GO TEC) project funded by GO Virginia, a program run by DHCD.
Dr. Julie Brown, IALR Director of Advanced Learning, joined the Governor and others to celebrate. The GO TEC team has assembled a comprehensive partnership of school divisions, higher education, economic developers, employers and GO Virginia to create a pipeline of skilled workers for the advanced manufacturing and information technology sectors. This hub-and-spoke, regional training model will provide
progressive talent development opportunities for these sectors to support economic development.
