Dr. Mark Jones received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2000, and Master of Education Degree in 1992 from the University of Virginia, and his Bachelor of Science Degree from Averett College in 1986. He has been married to his wife, Sherrie, for 34 years. They have two sons, Jason, 32, a tax attorney in Boca Raton, Florida, and Daniel, 29, a third-grade teacher at Cool Spring Elementary School in Hanover County, Virginia.
Dr. Jones has served as Superintendent of Schools in Pittsylvania County for five years; prior to that, he served as Superintendent of Schools for King William County for eight years. The Virginia Association of School Superintendents recognized him as Region 3 Superintendent of the Year in 2014. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Math-Science Innovation Center in Richmond, Virginia, for two years and Vice-Chairman for one year, served on the State Superintendent’s Leadership Council for two years, and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Piedmont Governor’s School for Mathematics, Science, and Technology and on numerous other boards across the Region. He is also a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
Prior to entering administration, he was a math teacher and coached football, basketball, baseball, and track at the varsity and JV levels. After he graduated from Averett College, he also served as an area manager at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Danville, Virginia.
