Only July 1, 2019, Dr. Jacqueline Gill Powell began her tenure as president of Danville Community College (DCC). With more than 4,000 students at 2 locations, including the Regional Advance Technology & Training Center, Danville Community College offers 100 credit and workforce development and continuing education programs. The college’s Cyber Security Programs provide curriculums that are mapped to the Department of Homeland Security and National Security Agency (NSA) cybersecurity education standards and is designated by the agencies as a Center of Academic Excellence for two-year institutions (CAE2Y). DCC is also the location of the Gene Haas Center for the Integrated Machining Program and the Precision Machining Technology Program, a unique program specifically designed to prepare students for a career in high precision manufacturing.
Dr. Gill Powell strives to ensure the college expands its reach as a dynamic institution that is culturally competent, accessible, innovative, and consistently focused on student success, while having a strong community presence in a highly competitive environment. She leans toward embracing the future with vision, open inquiry, a respect for history, and a passion for innovation. She holds membership in a variety of professional organizations, including the boards of directors of the Institute of Advance Learning & Research; Virginia Council of Presidents; the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center; GenEdge; and Virginia GO Tech (Great Opportunities in Technology & Engineering Careers)
Dr. Gill Powell has a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education as well as a Master of Arts in Education from Texas A&M University – Commerce (TAMUC). She earned a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas @ Arlington. She received her Bachelor of Science in Sociology (minor in marketing), Texas A&M University.
Dr. Gill Powell is a devoted woman of God and will assure you that if you only believe, all things are possible through Christ. She strives to lead a purposeful life and describes herself as a servant leader. She asks of others what she is willing to ask of herself. Jackie was a member of the United Believers Community Church in Kansas City, MO until her move to Virginia. Dr. Gill Powell is married to Rev. Terry Powell. She and Terry are currently seeking God’s direction in finding their new spiritual home in Danville, VA. She cherishes her role as a wife and stepmother to 4 beautiful children and 2 precious grandbabies. She is the youngest of three children. She believes in maintaining balance and a sense of humor, and she enjoys spending time with her husband (Terry), children, grandchildren, family, and friends, as well as cruising, traveling, reading, and listening to music of all genres.
